HOLLANDS DIEP

Zander Fishing on Hollands Diep – Guided by Thom Prüst

Hollands Diep is not a water you simply visit — it’s a system you learn. Wide, powerful and constantly shifting, it’s a place where predators move with the currents and only reveal themselves to those who understand how this river‑lake hybrid behaves. For many anglers, it’s a mystery. For me, it’s home water.

As a full‑time fishing guide, I spend more days on Hollands Diep than anywhere else. I follow the baitfish, the pressure changes, the subtle movements of zander as they slide between deep channels and feeding zones. When you fish with me, you don’t drift around hoping for a bite — you fish with purpose, precision and local knowledge that comes from being on the water every single week of the year.

Why Hollands Diep Is Europe’s Most Fascinating Zander Water

The character of Hollands Diep is defined by its murky water and strong currents. Zander thrive in these conditions. They don’t rely only on their amazing sight — they hunt by vibration, pressure and instinct. That makes techniques like softbait jigging, long‑line presentations and vertical fishing incredibly effective, but only when executed with the right timing and the right understanding of the bottom.

During your trip, you learn how to read the structure beneath the boat, how to detect the smallest taps and how to adjust your presentation to match the mood of the fish. Some days bring steady action, others deliver fewer bites — but the fish you remember for years are the ones that live here. Heavy, powerful zander that hit like a hammer and fight with everything they have

More Than Just Zander

Although zander is the main focus, Hollands Diep is never predictable. Perch over 50 cm hunt along the edges, pike well over a meter appear when you least expect them, and asp can explode on your lure out of nowhere. Even catfish are part of the ecosystem, occasionally turning a normal drift into a story you’ll tell for a long time.

We don’t target these species specifically, but they are frequent and exciting by‑catches that add to the experience.

Your Guide – Thom Prüst

Guiding is more than putting people on fish. It’s about teaching, reading conditions, adjusting techniques and creating a day that fits your level and your goals. Whether you’re an experienced angler looking to refine your approach or a beginner who wants to learn from scratch, I tailor the trip to what works best for you.

You fish with high‑quality gear — St. Croix rods, Shimano reels and proven softbaits — so you can focus entirely on the experience, not the equipment. Clear coaching, a relaxed atmosphere and a strong focus on technique make every trip both effective and enjoyable.

What to Expect During Your Trip

A typical day on Hollands Diep starts with reading the conditions: wind, current, clarity and baitfish movement. From there, we build a plan. We fish the structures that hold predators, adjust techniques when needed and stay flexible throughout the day.

You’ll learn:

  • how to control your lure in strong current

  • how to detect subtle zander bites

  • how to fish softbaits with precision

  • how to position the boat for maximum efficiency

  • how to adapt when the fish change depth or behaviour

By the end of the day, you don’t just catch fish — you understand why you caught them.
